I started my professional life as a Geography and Citizenship teacher at the Gateway Academy in Essex, UK. Working with a great team at a fantastic school I really learned the value of putting students first, of education and the front-line work of teachers in improving the lives and prospects of their students.
After falling in love with Nepal during a visit in 2007, I finally made the move here in 2010, starting off, as many, by volunteering my time and skills to the Shree Annapurna Secondary School, in Sikles Village, Kaski. During my time of over 7 months in the village, I acquired an excellent insight into the realities, strengths and weaknesses of the Nepalese education system. From here I began developing many ideas on how to improve what happens on a school level.
Since leaving Sikles, I have taken time to visit and work with a number of schools around Nepal, particularly focussing on Government schools. I have worked with a selection of organisations including Global Action Nepal, Pahar Trust Nepal, Tribhuvan University, Liverpool John Moores University, Liverpool University and Shamrock School by delivering training in a variety of ways to teachers of Nepalese schools.
I am currently working as an English Language teacher and Teaching Mentor at Shamrock School, Pokhara, as well as travelling a little around Nepal as a freelance educational consultant, trainer and researcher.
